The 2019 edition includes a men’s draw with 16 teams and a female draw with 8. National teams, club teams, Italian and foreign invitational teams guarantee a high technical and spectacular level.
“I MARINAI” READY FOR THE DEBUT IN RUGBY SEVEN AT THE VENICE INTERNATIONAL TOURNAMENT
The SeVenice 2019 will mark, on June 22nd, the debut in rugby seven of “I Marinai”. The name of this invitational team, basically a group of friends who until now had only taken part in rugby touch tournaments to have fun and keep fit in the off season, will not say much to most. But just browse through the list of players to find high-sounding names. For example, there are the Italian National Team capped Edoardo Padovani and Tommaso Boni, the Azzurri Seven Filippo Guarducci and Niccolò Fadalti, as well as many other athletes who are active in the Top 12, from Andrea Trotta to Gianmarco Vian, while other “historical” members of the team are Alvise Faraon and Riccardo Bona. Basically, the group was formed in 2014, when more or less everyone was playing in Mogliano Rugby Club.
“NATI SCOMBINATI” MORE AGGRESSIVE THAN EVER
SeVenice Rugby 2019 says welcome back to “Nati scombinati”, an invitational team based in Milan, which last year was the protagonist of an excellent tournament, reaching the final. The challenge to the 2018 champions, the Swiss Italian Rugby Sevens (7 SIRS), has already been launched.
In the past season, “Nati Scombinati” won the Seven Giulio Amighetti and Enea Mondini, the Milan Rugby Festival, the International Rugby Tournament Playa Club de Rugby Santander and the Sommolago Seven. They also gained the 2th place at Sevenice Rugby.
AT SEVENICE THE TEAM OF “THE SEVEN SEAS”
Another welcome return to SeVenice Rugby, the Venice Seven International Rugby Tournament (proof that those who try it…try it again). The “Seven Seas” team is more competitive and resolute than ever. Its non-player captain, Matteo Mazzantini, as a good Livornese, could only refer to the passion for the sea in the name of his team.
“TREQUARTI DI M”, BUT ONLY IN THE NAME… STILL ONCE TO SEVENICE
They are another invitation team born in Milan and surroundings, even if there are no posts and in the squad there are often players from other parts of Italy and abroad. They are the “Trequarti di M”, where the “M” is ironically to indicate, in italian slang, a presumed technical-gestural paucity, which would distinguish the players of this team. Nothing more forced, of course, because the “Trequarti di M” are all quality rugbymen, united by a common denominator: the desire to join Seven tournaments, playing good rugby and having fun. Also this year they are welcome at the International Seven-a-side Rugby Tournament.
GENEVA SWITZERS RETURN MORE COMPETITIVE THAN EVER
Another welcome return to the Venice Seven International Rugby Tournament. It is that of the Switzers, another Swiss club based in Geneva, used to attend the biggest european fields of the Seven. Last year at the SeVenice it got the semi-finals. This year the team of the “non-playing captain”, Gianni Di Martino will arrive at the “Pacifici” stadium in San Donà more competitive than ever and determined to fight until the end.
RUGBY SAN DONÀ HOSTS OTHERS AT “PACIFICI”
At the second edition of SeVenice, the Venice international seven-rugby tournament, scheduled for Saturday, June 22nd at the “Pacifici” stadium in San Donà di Piave, the “Biancocelesti” of Rugby San Donà certainly could not be missed. This historic club of Italian rugby, which for decades has been interrupted in the top national championship, will host the other teams at the “Pacifici”, deploying a mixed formation of first-team, cadet and youth players, led by Seven specialist Diego Luis Bressan.
THE “SEVEN DEL MAGNIFICO” TEAM AGAIN IN THE BATTLEFIELD OF SEVENICE
Born at the University of Udine, always a protagonist at the Italian national university rugby seven championships, the “Seven del Magnifico” team will be at the starting line of the SeVenice also for the 2019 edition. The team frame is made up of players who in rugby union play in Serie A in Rugby Udine FVG, but there is also some graft from other clubs. The non-player captain is the “Azzurro” of the Italian national Seven, Mattia D’Anna.
SEVEN SIRS SEEDED NUMBER ONE
They are the outgoing champions of the SeVenice and also the seeded number one of the 2019 tournament. They are the Seven Sirs, an invitational team based in Lugano, in the Italian part of Switzerland, and which traditionally counts athletes of various origins, Italians, English, French, New Zealanders, all united by a great specific ability in the Seven discipline. But this year at the international tournament in Venice (June 22th, “Pacifici” stadium, San Donà di Piave) will be in very good company.
MONTEBELLUNA RUGBY ENTERS IN SEVENICE 2019 DRAW
The countdown is almost over. Saturday, June 22nd, at the “Pacifici” stadium in San Donà di Piave, the second edition of the SeVenice, the Venice Seven International Rugby Tournament, is held. Montebelluna Rugby is also in the running, a historic team from the Venetian oval scene.
AT SEVENICE DOGI WERE NOT MISSING
We could not miss The Dogi team (here in an archive photo) at the Venice Seven International Rugby Tournament. The representative of the Veneto Committee, heir of the historic club with invitations that marked the history of the regional and national pallovale in the 70th and 80th, is the ninth and last team of the 2019 edition of SeVenice.
